OK, this may seem a little weird, but that’s never stopped me before. I’d love to know if anyone else has done anything similar!
A few years ago I decided to write a book for my son, and only for him. I have no idea when he’ll read it or even whether I’ll finish it – but I’m loving putting it together. I suppose it’s a sort of handover note for life – full of my innermost thoughts and feelings, and a few lessons in life that I’d like to pass on.
With advice like “Never apologise for asking for help…” and sections on how my life began when he was born, I can imagine him treasuring it for years and years and showing it to his children and grandchildren long after I’ve shuffled off.
It may seem a little macabre, but it’s designed to raise a few laughs, complete with doodles, photos and clippings – I hope it’ll bring joy in years to come. I use the best pens, am careful to fill every page, and want it to look as beautiful as the sentiment behind it.
I’d love to hear from you if you like the idea and maybe you’ve thought of doing something similar for yourself? Drop me a line: carlwheatley@me.com is my email address.
